The Pedro L C Farias Legacy Scholarship, born out of a partnership between the Diplomun Institute and Pedro Farias, will take a young individual to compete at Harvard with all expenses covered, enhancing Brazil’s prominence in globally renowned academic events.

First and foremost, United Nations (UN) simulations are academic events for young individuals where students develop skills in oratory, leadership, and negotiation through the debate of global issues.

In this context, the Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN) stands out as the world’s largest and most renowned simulation of the United Nations, annually bringing together over 4000 participants in Boston, Massachusetts. There, the most promising future leaders from around the world gather to discuss urgent global issues in more than 30 distinct committees, expanding the understanding of complex international challenges and awarding recognitions to the top performers.

As the leading organization responsible for bringing and training Brazilians for the conference, the Diplomun Institute, whose CEO is Felipe Carvalho, a former student of Leffler School and current student at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), has accumulated over 20 awards at the event, increasing Brazil’s prominence each year.

Recently, with the aim of broadening access to these opportunities and positioning itself as an organization actively committed to causing educational transformation, the Diplomun Institute announced an innovative partnership that promises to mark a new chapter in the world of UN simulations, joining forces with the notable Pedro Farias, a Harvard University graduate and former president of the University’s Council on International Relations, to create the “Pedro L. C. Farias Legacy Scholarship by Diplomun,” funded by Pedro.

As the ultimate prize in a selection process comprising a UN simulation, panels, and individual interviews, the “Pedro L. C. Farias Legacy Scholarship by Diplomun” will fully finance the participation of a young Brazilian at the Harvard MUN in January 2024. In addition to covering all expenses for travel, food, and accommodation, the scholarship will also provide comprehensive and personalized preparation for the event through the mentorship of the Diplomun Institute.

Opportunities like these reinforce the commitment of Felipe Carvalho, Pedro Farias, and the Diplomun Institute as a whole to the development of young Brazilian leaders, as well as to the promotion of diversity and inclusion in international debating and decision-making environments.

“It’s a dream come true; I know how much this opportunity can change people’s lives, and I can only thank Pedro Farias for making it possible. While I was still at Leffler School, my entrepreneurial spirit was nourished and encouraged to the fullest; I’m happy that today, in addition to reaping the rewards, I can plant new seeds,” stated Felipe regarding the realization of the scholarship.

Undoubtedly, the “Pedro L. C. Farias Legacy Scholarship by Diplomun” symbolizes a significant leap in promoting young Brazilian leaders on the international stage. It is more than a scholarship—it is a youth empowerment project aimed at democratizing quality political, diplomatic, and soft skills education. Now, the invitation is extended to more young individuals to participate in the entirely free selection process, and hopes are high that initiatives like this become a reality year after year.
